Temporary Padel Facility 

CWG is bringing forward proposals for a new temporary Padel facility at Wood Wharf in partnership with an established Padel operator, introducing a new sports and leisure use alongside Blackwall Basin.

The proposals form part of CWG’s wider ambition to create a diverse, active and vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood, offering more opportunities for people to live, work, visit, socialise and spend time in the area.

Our proposals will bring a high-quality padel and leisure facility to Plots C1 and F1, in the northern part of Wood Wharf. The scheme has been designed to create new opportunities for sport, leisure and social activity for residents, workers and visitors to Canary Wharf, adding to the area’s wellbeing offer while the wider development of Wood Wharf continues. The facility is proposed as a temporary use for approximately seven years.

 

 

Proposals for Padel Courts

The proposals include:

Six indoor padel courts within a double barrel-vault structure.

  • A covered external padel court, with roof and side enclosures to help manage noise.
  • A two-storey clubhouse of approximately 500m², including changing facilities and a servery supporting the operation of the facility.
  • New landscaping and seating areas around the courts and clubhouse.
  • Pedestrian access to the facility from Brannan Street.
  • A design that responds to the waterfront setting, with the pavilions reading as a low, softly illuminated lantern when viewed from the water.

We are currently preparing a planning application for the Temporary Padel Facility to be submitted London Borough of Tower Hamlets following the completion of this public consultation.
