London’s largest free light art festival, Winter Lights, returns to illuminate Canary Wharf this January with its new theme: RE(IMAGINE)
From Tuesday 19th – Saturday 30th January, Canary Wharf will once again become London’s brightest open-air exhibition, with the entire district transformed with world-class light art by acclaimed UK and international artists, all free for the public to attend.
Going into its second decade, the Winter Lights 2027 theme of “RE(IMAGINE)” is an opportunity to see this iconic area of London a little differently; through the lens of colour, movement, projection and sound, turning familiar streets, parks and waterways into otherworldly spaces full of light and wonder. The theme invites artists and audiences to explore new possibilities, transforming how we experience public space, whist conjuring hopeful futures and alternative realities. RE(IMAGINE) alludes to the act of revisiting, reusing, recycling, perhaps returning to an idea or thought and realising it anew, grounding these fantastical ideas in the real-world. In this way, we hope it inspires artistic freedom and experimentation, whilst also creating a space for visitor reflection.
Pippa Dale, Associate Director Arts & Events at CWG says, “Winter Lights has proven itself as a mainstay on the London calendar and we couldn’t be happier that people return every January to take in the joy of light art. As ever, 2027’s festival promises an array of diverse installations including new commissions, as well as several UK debuts. We can’t wait to welcome you back.”
Full artist line-up to be announced in January 2027.
